Our History

ConneXion Church of Savannah is a congregation formed from the merger of three (3) Savannah congregations: Aldersgate UMC, Cokesbury UMC, and Speedwell UMC. At the request of Dr. Wayne Moseley, the Coastal District Superintendent at the time, each congregation prayerfully considered this unique and historic merger.

In August 2015, Bishop James King, resident bishop of the South Georgia Annual Conference, approved the merger that paved the way for the formation of ConneXion Church. From August 2015 to May 2016, representatives of each congregation met as a transition team to prepare for the launch of the new church. The transition team agreed to name the new church, ConneXion Church. ConneXion is the English spelling of the
word “connection”, which means to bind together.

ConneXion Church held its first worship experience on June 19, 2016. Pastor J. Michael Culbreth, the newly appointed pastor of ConneXion Church, began preaching his first sermon series that Sunday, entitled, Making the Connection. ConneXion Church was dedicated on Sunday, January 29, 2017, by Bishop R. Lawson Bryan.

ConneXion Church is an intentionally multi-racial and inter-generational congregation that seeks to fulfill her mission and vision through powerful worship, purposeful outreach ministries, and personal evangelism. We
seek to impact the city of Savannah in positive and powerful ways, and destroy the walls and barriers that separate us as God’s people.

On July 1, 2025, ConneXion Church welcomed Rev. Dr. Theophilus J. Stanford as its new pastor. We continue to trust God as we connect to God’s promise from Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,”
declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
